Lots of people gushed over Mandy Moore's "A Walk To Remember" so in honor of those mushy friends of mine, here are DVDs of Mandy Moore available at Amazon.

(Then again, she is better known for her music than for her acting, so here are CDs of Mandy Moore.)

My other reason involves the use of a script called Piranha Feed, which is a PHP application that rides on Amazon's xml system. It automatically serves up images and prices, depending on what search terms you feed it.

I'm also learning how to create search engine-friendly URLs. What this means is I can "make" these pages:

DVDs of Cameron Diaz
DVDs of Tom Cruise
DVDs of Natalie Portman
DVDs of Jennifer Lopez
DVDs of Spider Man
DVDs of Star Wars

...but if you actually look inside the webserver, you won't find those separate html files. Instead, you'll find a SINGLE file that automatically calls the Piranha Feed script based on the search terms you plug in. In other words, I save on web hard disk space but still give the impression that this web site has LOTS of pages.

For example, that single file looks like this:
http://www.viloria.com/amazonxml/htresults.php?pfm=dvd&pfs=harrison-ford

...which some folks say is too long and is not search engine-friendly because of the presence of the "?" in the URL. Here's a shorter, virtual (because the actual html file does not exist) version:

http://www.viloria.com/amazonxml/dvd-harrison-ford.html
which serves up the same page as the longer version.

Anyway, enough of the boring "techie" stuff...

Various sites monitor your surfing habits and end up either showing you ads more suited to your profile, or selling your info to others, or both. Here's one way to stop them:

Some bloggers have a main page which lists their recent entries. If the entry is longer than usual, there's a "more" link that brings you to ANOTHER page so you can view the entire entry.

For users of PMachine, you can make your "more" entry display on the SAME page by making the text magically appear beneath the "short" version, instead of directing your readers to another page.

Here's the link that shows you how to expand and collapse "more" entries in PMachine:

Typhoon Gloria is now leaving the country, but rain keeps pouring non-stop. Gloria is also known as Chataan (cha-ta-an), which is the Chamorro word for "rain."

I wonder why we decided to include "Gloria" in the list of typhoon names here in the Philippines. And oh, there's another typhoon in the area, this time called "Hambalos" which is the Pilipino word for "to hit." How elegant. ;-)

By the way, you can learn more about the typhoons whipping our country and get updates via email at Typhoon2000.ph.

Have you seen the MovableType webring? I was happily surprised to find 225 sites in there.

That's 225 places which use MovableType, which is a web program that allows you to easily update your web site. It's great for those who like writing regularly, such as online diarists and photo-essayists.

Installing MT can be quite daunting, but if you're patient and willing to learn a bit of HTML (for designing your sites) and other techie stuff, you'll end up with a site that's easy to update, whether you're working on it yourself or with the help of your friends and family members.

Check out what some people are doing with MT -- MovableType webring
