The newspapers today quote the SWS (that's Social Weather Station) surveys as saying that more than 80% of Filipinos welcome the presence of American troops here in the country. I've lived in this country (not to mention, on this earth) for almost 35 years now and surprisingly, have never been asked by the SWS about my opinion on anything. [more]

By now, just like almost everybody else, you must have watched Lord of the Rings. And by now, just like everyone else, you must be agonizing over the fact that you'll have to wait two more years to find out what actually happens. Unless of course, you read the book while waiting for the next two movies. [more]

One of my pet peeves is being asked for change by the person manning the cash register. If you've been to the Philippines and have done some shopping, you know what I mean. Anyway, I've never really liked receiving coins as change. I hardly use them and they make my wallet super-heavy. What I usually do then is to put all my coins in a can and forget about them, till they're about to get de-monetized. Then, we scramble to spend them on "dirty ice cream," taho, etc. etc. [more]

Today, January 9, is the Feast of the Black Nazarene. Here in the Philippines, devotees will troop to Quiapo Church where the cross-bearing, dark-complexioned Christ will be brought out of the Basilica to go around the nearby areas, in procession. The procession starts at about 2pm and lasts till early evening. [more]

During the recent holidays, the company I work for decided to set aside some amount of money to buy groceries to give away to the less-fortunate. It was our way of giving thanks for all our blessings in the year 2001 and also a way by which we can share those blessings with others. [more]

Barring the fact that you are Scrooge, you must have received some (probably not as much due to difficult times but I'm quite sure you received a few) gifts this Christmas.

My husband and kid were talking the other day and my husband asked Adi: "What's your New Year's gift for me?" [more]

Happy 2002 everyone! After a few days' break, we're back to work and back on-line too. How were your holidays?

Speaking of holidays, if you're about as old as me (in your mid-thirties) and Filipino, your parents probably took you to watch Holiday on Ice at the Araneta before. Personally, I don't remember when I last set foot in that place but last December 30 was nostalgia time. [more]
