'Tis the season to be jolly?

Ho-ho-ho! The peso-dollar exchange rate just hit P42:$1. Merry Crisis-mas! For awhile there, we were all shocked, I guess. Makes you want to call Santa and his elves to fix this whole mess that we're in. Asia, someone said, is practically "dead" in the next two years. Companies have been hit hard. Belt-tightening and "cost cutting" are the buzz words for the time being. Employees feel like belting and singing: "All I want for Christmas is my 14th month pay!" (Agree, agree?)

Times like these...you need a Juicy...bonus. (Sorry, but the "good news" has been so long in coming that it just keeps creeping into my thoughts.) Kidding aside, times like these, we are forced to reflect on the true meaning of the season. Prosperous times do have a dazzling effect - we can get caught up in all the material trappings that come with the holidays. We then overlook the most important things - things like giving, sacrifice (i.e. God did give His only Son to save us), and being genuinely thankful for all the blessings. Things we take for granted - like being able to breathe easily, having two hands to use, being with family and loved ones.

The Christmas season is really getting to me. Pardon the drama. Anyway, we seem to be headed for exciting times. The coming year should prove to be really challenging. Brace yourselves for 1998. I have much confidence in the Pinoy though. We have survived worst and more difficult situations and have always come out on top - and laughing!

So, Merry Christmas, everyone! All the best to you and your families. 'Tis the season to be jolly, thankful, and happy. May we all find the true meaning of Christmas...in our hearts.
