Child Book Review 7: Mercer Mayer's Little Critter - I Smell Christmas

WHAT IS IT ABOUT? It's about Little Critter's family and the things that they do during Christmas.

WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT THIS BOOK? It's a "nose tickler" book, with scratch and sniff stickers so kids are bound to enjoy it a lot. There's the scent of a christmas tree, hot chocolate, candy cane, and other fun stuff. It is also heavy on traditions and being together as a family, particularly during Christmas. And if you happen to be Pinoy, SeptemBER is really the time that we start talking about or thinking about Christmas!

WHAT DO OUR KIDS LEARN? Kids learn that Christmas is all about family -- being together, doing things together. It is about helping out and sharing. It is about showing affection and just having fun - hanging out together.It is about gratitude and great expectations. It may not speak or remind us about the real reason for Christmas, that of Christ's birth, but true joy and love in the family cannot be found where God is absent. After reading this book, just remind your kids what we celebrate each Christmas. Herein lies true happiness at Christmas time and always.
