Motherhood, Inc.

Yes, workaholics, my greatest ambition in life is to be a housewife. This statement is made, not in a derogatory sense as some people probably would, but fully appreciating what it takes to be a housewife. Being a housewife is no easy task. It is not at all easy to put your wants and concerns after the needs of your family. It is not easy to juggle various duties and responsibilities covering a wide range of areas such as: medicine (taking care of sick and/or fussy babies and hubbies), education (teaching the right values, helping with schoolwork), psychology (trying to discover how to get your kid to follow you), and finance (making sure the budget fits), among others. There is nothing more noble than caring for another human being even more than you would yourself.

I work since I need to. Work is not something I do for fun or for the sheer heck of it but because it will help me provide for the family. Family-life is a priority. Work is seen as a way by which I can reach my ultimate goal -- being a housewife.

Work means different things to different people. For some, it may be all that they have. Without work, they would find themselves at a loss as to what to do. I do not define myself by my work. Rather, I find more meaning in being with family, raising my cute kid. Work is important to me, yes -- but it is not everything.

I've always stated that no one ever said: "I wish I spent more time at the office" on his deathbed. It's always, "I wish I spent more time with my family. I wish I did this and I wish I did that." Setting one's priorities is important. Know what means the most to you and you will never be confused no matter what other people say.

Belated Happy Mother's Day everyone! Put work in its proper place. Have a life. Have fun!
