Rated Aaack!

This year, 1997, is the "Year of the Ox." The ox is a beast of burden so many people are expecting this year to be work-filled. Given the amount of work that we have at CIBI Ratings all the time though, it seems that we've been moving from one year of the ox to another. Don't you agree?

Writing credit rating reports and attending meetings can be quite draining and taxing as we all know. We need a break from time to time and this unofficial newsletter that you are reading and which you have in your hands right now happens to be the result of MY BREAK. This newsletter will come out, hopefully, every month, meetings and all the work at CIBI notwithstanding.

The purpose of this newsletter is to amuse, entertain, inspire, or to give you something to do for a brief moment that your brain just won't work. We all experience "mental blocks" as we go about the analytical process (there goes our phrase for the month!) so hopefully, this will serve as some sort of breather for everyone.

And now a word about the title of this column. "Aaack!!" is one of Cathy Andrews' (that lovable character by Cathy Guisewite) favorite expressions. Cathy, as some of you know, is one of my favorite characters. The fact that her major concerns are her work, her diet, her lovelife, and her mother make it easy for so many people, women especially, to identify with her. "Aaack!!" is something I feel like yelling when we're about to release a report, when a client rants and raves and appears like he's about to get a heart attack after getting a low rating, when we're so confused about the "analytical process," and when we get a lot of questions at a Rating Board meeting. Hopefully, there won't be too many "aaacks" this year. May 1997 turn out okay. May we all have an "Oks na ox." (Pun intended)

Adi exclaiming Aaack!

The Ox. A best of burden.
Highly methodical. Hard-working.
A work...uh, horse?
