Sciatica and Back Pain

I'm searching for a solution or a cure for sciatica or back pain.

And from the looks of it, these are the main options available: pain management (via pain killers), exercise (long-term back care), or surgery.

The challenge today is finding the right doctor who will be able to help me over the long-term, and not simply prescribe short-term back pain relief. The issue with short-term solutions is that once your back pain is gone, you might end up doing the same thing that started your injury in the first place.

There was nothing dramatic about my back pain. Just did some bent over rows one day, then rested. The following day, I noticed some slight lower back pain.

(About a week before that, there was some pain similar to what you feel when you fall to the floor on your behind. I still need to consult with a doctor, to find out if that slight pain on the left butt bone was some kind of warning signal that something was already the matter with my back.)

Anyway, the sharp lower back pains subsided (without my taking ibuprofen, advil, alaxan, or dolfenal), so I did a few easy pushups on Sunday, 03 January 2010. A few minutes later, though, at breakfast, I once again felt the pain on my lower back. Only sharper.

The pain continued even while I was sitting still. In late December and early January, the pain would disappear while I sat still. That Sunday, however, felt much different.

Monday, 04 January 2010 - The pain significantly decreased. Not as sharp, but still there. The pain in the left buttocks disappeared.

Tuesday, 05 January 2010 - My right lower back now feels tired. Anyway, I will consult with an orthopedic doctor within the week.

There are so many YouTube videos of exercise for the back, or for people suffering from sciatica. But a number of those look wrong (especially those which require you to stretch your hamstrings). Yikes. It's truly much better to consult with your professional health care provider, especially if you're looking for a way to get rid of your back pain.
