Wireless - G Range Expander

You can easily expand the range of your wireless network with the help of the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander (Model No. WRE54G | 2.4 GHz 802.11g).

I have a wireless router in the computer room, but I noticed that the Playstation 3 in another room only shows a 20% connection when tapping the internet via the WiFi router in the computer room. By placing the WRE54G in the room with the PS3, the connection went up to 100%, which made playing Little Big Planet online more enjoyable.

How To Easily Set-up the WRE54G

The secret to rapidly setting up your Wireless G WRE54G is to first switch off the password-protection or encryption of your main WiFi router. Following the instructions in the operating manual of your range expander, you then simply press the autoconfigure button (located at the side of your expander).

This allows you to easily add the expander to your wireless network, and it will be assigned an IP address of 192.168.1.240 (which you can access via your web browser at http://192.168.1.240). There's no username, but the initial password is "admin" (without the quotes).

Remember to change the "admin" password to something harder to guess.

Next, set your WRE54G to encrypted mode, and use the WEP or WAP key of your WiFi router. Then go back to your WiFi router (http://192.168.1.1) and switch the encryption back on.

That's what worked for me, and I hope it helps you get your Wireless-G Range Expander up and running as quickly as possible, so that you can enjoy your wireless internet connection no matter where you are in your house.
