Netbook Averatec N1000

I saw another netbook contender prominently displayed in one of the computer shops in Galleria: the Averatec N1000.

According to the people at Lucky Computers, the Averatec N1000 is also known as the Averatec "Buddy", your perfect travel companion netbook (Trigem calls it a mini notebook or ultraportable notebook) which sports a 10.2" screen.

Here are the specifications:

LCD - 10.2" LCD (WXGA 1024 x 600)
CPU - Intel Atom processor N270 (1.6 GHz)
Chipset - Intel 945GSE

HDD - 160 GB (2.5" SATA interface)
[no provision for a solid state drive, though]

Graphic - Intel GMA950
Audio - Speaker 1W x 2
Wired LAN - 10/100 Fast Ethernet

Wireless LAN - 802.11 b/g (54Mbps)
[no Bluetooth]

Card Reader 4-in-1 (MMC/SD/MS/MS-Pro)
Interface (I/O) - USB x 3, Audio jack x 2, D-Sub, DC-in x 1, 15-pin VGA
Battery - Lion (3-cell)
Webcam - 1.3 megapixel
OS - Windows XP
Dimensions (WxDxH) - 260mm x 180mm 19~31.5mm
Weight - 1.2 kg (with battery)

I like the simple black casing of this netbook. And it's pretty light, in spite of the relatively larger keyboard. I'll most likely wait for the 6-cell version (I hope it is released soon, if ever), because if you're touting mobility you definitely need a unit that has a battery life that lasts at least 5 hours.

As far as the 3-cell version is concerned, the MSI Wind outlasts the Averatec Buddy. And since my friends who use an MSI Wind are not happy with their battery life, that makes the Averatec N1000 handy as a traveling companion... if you can find a nearby electrical outlet.

The Averatec N1000 10.2" netbook has an SRP of P21,800 (for the 1GB DDR2 Memory) or P23,800 (for the 2GB memory unit).
