Email and MX RecordsHere are some notes for those configuring their emailservers. If an ISP gives you an IP address which will route your email, you'll need to do the following: 1. Create an A Record (something like mail2.example.com, where example.com is your domain name) using the IP address assigned to you by the ISP. 2. Create an MX Record that looks like 3. Make sure your ISP creates a PTR record so that they know that IP address X.X.X.X is also known as mail2.example.com (or whatever it is you placed in the A Record). 4. Test your settings with the help of MXToolBox.com Have fun configuring your domain name, email, and MX records! :-) Previous Entry Secondthoughts Index Next Entry
