Email and Branding

I received an interesting question about email and branding. Why am I using a GMail address?

Afterall, I already have the domain name ManuelViloria.com, so won't it make better sense to use accountname @ manuelviloria.com instead of the generic GMail.com address?

Yes, for branding purposes, an email account ending with @yourowndomain is much better than yourowndomain @GMail.com, but if you display such an email address in your web site, you will easily attract a lot of spam.

But won't a GMail address also attract a lot of spam? Yes, it will, although GMail has a much better spam filtering system than ManuelViloria.com

So that's why I display the GMail address... out here on the web.

In print media, however, I would use username @ ManuelViloria.com (for branding purposes, but without the risk of automated spam).
