Tagalog Movies

I got five Tagalog movies (in DVD format) today.

After I view each movie, I'll post a quick review. Anyway, here are the titles:

"Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo"
(Literally: Marriage, Participation, Togetherness in Celebrations)

I know, I know. Something is definitely lost in the translation. Anyway, this movie stars the popular Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo, and was written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes. In won in the 2006 Metro Mainla Film Festival for 2nd Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Story, Best Screenplay, Best Original Theme Song, the Gatpuno Villegas Cultural Award, and was also the Top Grosser.

"Paano Kita Iibigin"
(How Can I Love You)

Stars Regine Velasquez and Piolo Pascual, and is directed by Joyce Bernal. I wonder how they came up with character names such as Marteena Diamzon and her boss Lance Monteagudo, but I'll find time to view this 102-minute Tagalog movie.

"Angels"

This is three-story packaged movie: Angel of Mine (Angel Locsin), Daddy's Angel (Marvin Agustin), and Angel of Love (Jennylyn Mercado, Patrick Garcia). I'd better be sure to do some limbering up, as the movie (with English subtitles) runs for 240 minutes.

"Mano Po"
(Let Me Kiss Your Right Hand)

This film by Joel Lamangan is a multi-awarded entry of MMFF 2002. That's not a typo, folks. So why watch and write about this movie? Perhaps it's the blend of Philippine and Chinese culture that resonates with quite a number of Filipinos worldwide.

"Enteng Kabisote 2"
Okay Ka Fairy Ko... The Legend Continues

This is probably a fun film that I will ask my kids to watch, because it will help them learn Tagalog while hopefully keeping them entertained. This No. 1 Box-Office Tagalog movie of MMFF 2005 stars Vic Sotto, Kristine Hermosa, and Alice Dixson. Directedy by Tony Y. Reyes, EK2 mixes fantasy with snippets of Philippine culture. Perhaps I'll go watch this DVD first.

Anyway, please don't be surprised with the coming posts about all these Filipino movies. Abangan!
