Camtasia AlternativeAre you planning to create a screencast but find Camtasia too expensive? Thanks to Jon Udell's post on Video Knowledge, I found out about: Windows Media Encoder -- touted as a free alternative to Camtasia. And while it does not have the post-production bells and whistles of Camtasia Studio, Jon Udell mentions that it works for "capturing in stream-of-consciousness mode for purposes of documentation." I'll test it in the coming days. One thing I like about Camtasia is its zoom ability, which I find useful when displaying videos via YouTube's "tiny" 400-pixel wide windows. Let's see how the Windows Media Encoder will work in conjunction with YouTube. Stay tuned!
