Moodle and Online Learning Communities

Educators can now easily build online learning communities.

You can download Moodle, which is free Open Source software, at Moodle.org and quickly test this course management system.

What makes it different from WordPress where people can easily post articles and submit comments? I'm intrigued by the philosophy behind Moodle.

The people involved with Moodle talk about how people do not simply learn by reading things on the web. Learners inject their own experiences into the new topic, create their own notes (which helps enhance the learning process), and then interact with others to gain additional insight.

Other content management software do not even talk about the learning process.

Here are some modules you'll find in Moodle: assignment, attendance, book, chat, dialogue, exercise, forum, glossary, journal, lesson, questionnaire, quiz, SCORM, survey, webquest, wiki, and workshop.

If you're a university educator or secondary school teacher interested in testing the online learning waters, try Moodle today.
