Alcogas and Virgin Coconut Oil

Last week, I overheard an AM radio interview about alternative fuel.

Over AM radio station DZBB 594, Joel Reyes Zobel (JoelZobel.com) was interviewing someone (I didn't catch the name and contact info) and here's what I remember:

1. Mix 250ml of virgin coconut oil (VCO) with 20 liters of diesel, and your diesel engine will perform better (and at lower cost)

Note: During World War II, coconut oil was used in the Philippines when diesel was in short supply. See Using coconut oil as an engine fuel (Small Islands Voice Global Forum).

2. Grade A VCO costs about P150 per bottle, while Grade B (which is good enough for mixing with diesel since it's just Grade A VCO that has been heated) costs P50.

3. Two hectares of planted sugar cane can produce enough alcohol to provide a taxi cab with 100 liters of fuel per day.

If this works, then this is probably a great way to deal with the rising cost of oil prices.

If you know the name and contact number of the person interviewed by Joel Zobel, please let me know. Thanks!
