Create Your Podcast For Free - Clickcaster

If you're just testing the podcasting waters, you can try creating a podcast for free.

In Startup Banks on Big Money in Podcasting, Caron Schwartz Ellis writes about Clickcaster.com and their free (and for fee) podcast hosting services.

Clickcaster's Scott Converse aims to make Clickcaster the WordPress / Blogger.com of the podcasting world.

I signed up at Clickcaster (http://www.clickcaster.com/viloria) and published two podcast episodes. The first was done via their online recording tool, while the second entry (Episode 1) was an mp3 file recorded via Audacity and posted via Clickcaster's upload tool.

The online recording tool records your audio at 128kbps, so if you plan to record long episodes be prepared for quite a wait. The 27-second test recording file was almost half a megabyte, but may still be a worthwhile option if you're on the road and have no access to your usual sound recording software.

The 3.5 minute recording I made on my computer (at 40 kbps) is about one megabyte, so if you plan to record longer shows or edit and mix your MP3s, it's better to use your PC.

It would be great if the blog or "Show Notes" section of your Clickcaster-hosted podcast allowed you to insert clickable web links. Well, what can we really expect from a free service.

All in all, it's worth trying out if you're just curious about podcasting. Don't use it for a longer-running podcast show, though, because it's better to brand your show with your own domain name.
