Submitting your podcast to various directories is one way of promoting it.

Robin Good's Where To Submit Your Podcasts is a long list of such places.

While not all directories will adequately drive traffic to your site, the listings there will somehow count for something in the eyes of the other search engines. Afterall, it's still a link to your site.
