Ang Panday Television Series

The Philippine television scene is getting ready for the "Ang Panday" TV series starring Jericho Rosales.

Sporting longish hair and a moustache, Echo Rosales breathes new life to the character originally popularized by Fernando Poe, Jr. (FPJ)

If you're curious about the story but don't have the time to cut through traffic and see the television show, you can thank the internet and the many Ang Panday fan sites and shrines that have sprouted.

The Ang Panday fanblog talks about Echo's leading lady Heart Evangelista. You'll see some photos. (What happened to Heart's eyelashes?)

There's another site that started as early as Aug 31, 2005 but hasn't been developed... yet. Perhaps the owner is quite busy maintaining his/her other sites about popular Pinoy television shows.

Anyway, here's a mini-backgrounder: "Panday" is the Tagalog term for "blacksmith". Flavio (the character of FPJ) forges a dagger using the metal found in a meteor. Sounds like the Ring of the Nibelungs? Not really.

The dagger magically turns into a sword each time the desert town of Sto. Sepulcro is attacked by the minions of Lizardo.

Does Flavio prevail? Does he die? Find out at the Ang Panday fanblog.

I wonder what the writers will do with this series. It looks like we're seeing more shows that are based on the popular characters of my childhood (i.e., Darna, Kampanerang Kuba). Will we see a future Pendro Penduko TV series? Or a Mon Zamora Isprikitik revival?

Or have the writers run out of new characters?

Anyway, here are the Ang Panday Episode Summaries
