Podcasting ExperimentI conducted a little podcasting experiment to see how many people use their computers to listen to a podcast, and how many would download the mp3 file to their iPod or MP3 player. Last September 29, I did something different with the podcast sound files. I created two versions: one larger version which had a direct link to the mp3 file (and which will hopefully be picked up by MP3 players of those subscribed to the podcast feed), and a smaller version which will cater to computer users who prefer streaming audio. The result: downloads of the smaller streaming audio file outpaced those of the larger mp3 file by 825%. Will more people (this site's visitors, that is) use MP3 players in the future? Perhaps. For the moment, however, 90% of the visitors prefer to listen to the streaming mp3 files using their computer. If you're a Pinoy podcaster, please don't be disheartened. You can always promote your podcast by getting it listed in various podcast directories. Be aware, however, that if your podcast gets so popular (i.e., iTunes features it) you'll have to shoulder the coming bandwidth costs.
