VoIP Using A Regular Phone

SKYinternet is offering VoIP using a regular phone, which allows you to call your family abroad via IDD for just 5 cents per minute.

Overseas calls are cheaper because instead of using phone lines, they will transmit your calls over the internet. Unlike traditional VoIP services which require a PC to make the call, SKYinternet VoIP uses just a regular landline phone.

What's needed? A broadband internet connection.

The 5 cents per minute is based on the assumption that you will subscribe to their P1,499/month "Supreme" plan. Under that plan, you will get 500 IDD minutes for free. If you need to make calls in excess of beyond this monthly limit, you will be charged 10 cents/minute for "Top Countries" (e.g., US, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei) and 19 cents/minute for major countries.

At 500 minutes that comes out to US$25/month.

There's an installation fee of P2,999 but you get a free Cisco broadband router.

It will probably make sense if you average 16 minutes of overseas voice calls per day
