April 9 Is A Holiday
April 9, 2005 (Saturday) has been declared as a regular non-working holiday throughout the Philippines.
This declaration is by virtue of Republic Act No. 9177, and is in celebration of this year's Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Courage).
The holiday is not moved to a Friday, because RA No. 9177 does not classify April 9 as a movable date.
For those interested in Philippine history, Major General Edward King, Bataan's commander, surrendered to the Japanese on April 9, 1942.
I wonder how my lolo survived the Death March that followed the fall of Bataan.
