Blogs and Comment Spam

Will comment spam kill blogs? Some web hosts are thinking of disabling certain Movabletype scripts, because comment spammers keep hitting those scripts. Increased hits means the web host's resources are consumed at a faster rate, and this affects other web sites hosted on the same server.

Comment Spam Load Issue is MovableType.org's take on this matter.

MovableType 3.15 Released -- to combat the danger that others can send email through your blog application.

Some bloggers have turned off commenting at their sites. If the content spammers still decided to hit your comment CGI file, however, there might still be issue regarding the draining of web resources.

I wonder if this will force bloggers to go back to the old FTP approach. We'll see.
