Acting Third World

What does acting third world mean? I'm from a Third World country, and I'm happy with the way I act. I've met quite a few of my countryfolks, and am inspired by what they have achieved with the little that they have. Some of my fellow Filipinos, however, feel differently. They equate acting third world with acting incompetently. And it infuriates me at times...

Over the weekend, some email system went down. Naturally, a number of people got agitated because they've grown increasingly dependent on email. Funny, it wasn't too long ago when people used phones or fax machines.

Anyway, I was told that being third world doesn't mean we have to act third world.

Geez. To think the email glitch (which happens every now and then out here on the internet) was caused by a system controlled by a non-Third World country.

Face it people -- Email is not reliable. And it's as secure as sending a "private" postcard. And please, please don't equate internet unreliability with "acting third world."

There. That's the end of my rant.
