Decisions, Decisions

I am sure you have been in a situation (just like everyone else who is still alive) where you needed to make a critical or crucial decision. I remember one time, when my mother was talking about me on the phone and she said: "Itong si Angel, may problema." (Angel has a problem.)

I quickly retorted by saying: "Hindi problema, desisyon lang." (It's not a problem. I just need to make a decision.)

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to make a decision, what are some of the things that you must bear in mind to help you make a better decision?

1. Cool off -- Don't decide in anger or while still angry. Chances are, if you decide in anger, you will not be thinking clearly or straight. Take a break. Give yourself time to think things through.

2. Seek counsel -- Talk to your friends, relatives, and colleagues, if you think it will help. Choose people you trust so you can get different points of view. You will generate unique insights and get a clearer perspective. It can reinforce or even change the way you see things. In the end, though, the decision is still all yours.

3. Pray and ask people to pray for you -- Prayer always enlightens. You will gain the confidence that all will work out well in the end. You will get ideas. It has happened to me, several times in the past, that when I pray (amidst a confusing situation), it's like I hear the sound "ting" in my head, a light is turned on, and I know exactly what to do.

4. Pick your battles -- Some decisions may involve other people and it is always good not to antagonize anyone, if it can be helped. What goes around, comes around. We are all interconnected. We will all meet each other again at one time or the other. Some fights are not meant to see completion and it is always a sign of wisdom to know when to step back, smile, and just walk on.

Decisions, decisions. We all need to make them. More important, though, than how we make them is what they will make of us in the end. Have pleasant day. =)
