All Shook Up

While in Kuala Lumpur, we were able to try out this restaurant called "Shook," at the Lower Ground Floor of Starhill Center. Starhill Center is a shopping mall connected to Marriott Hotel and if you have no intentions of spending big, I suggest you just give it a few minutes or hours. Most of the shops sell name brands so this is not the place to get good bargains.

Shook is open from 12 noon till 12 midnight. Their menu is quite extensive, interestingly clipped to a thick, rectangular piece of wood (something similar to a chopping board). Shook serves Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Western, and Grilled food.

I tried the Frutti di Mari (at about RM 28) and it was very good. The pasta was cooked al dente, the sauce was very tasty, and it had generous servings of squid, shrimp, and other seafood. I also tasted the tea with orange (with ice) that they gave us in very small glasses at the start of the meal. It was very refreshing although I didn't finish it, not because I didn't like it but because the baby inside my tummy might not feel too good about it.

If you happen to be in KL, drop by Shook and have a meal. Look out for those burly-looking waiters in black shirts who never seem to smile. Never mind if your picture will never be put up on the restaurant's walls like Mahathir's or those of other famous people or celebrities. The food should make up for it.
