Here are Tagalog words for various vegetables. Filipino children used to learn this song in pre-school. I wonder why that has changed.
bahay - house
kubo - hut
kahit - even (if)
munti - tiny
halaman - plants
doon - there
sari-sari - varied
paligid - surroundings
puno - full (in this particular context)
From a Yehey Message Board:
singkamas - native turnip
talong - eggplant
sigarilyas - winged seguidillas beans
mani - peanut
sitaw - string beans
bataw - hyacinth bean
patani [photo] - lima beans, kidney beans
kondol - wax gourd
patola - sponge gourd
upo - white squash
kalabasa - pumpkin, squash
labanos - radish
mustasa - mustard
sibuyas - onions
kamatis - tomatoes
bawang - garlic
luya - ginger
linga - sesame seeds
Bahay Kubo G D C G Bahay kubo, kahit munti G D G Ang halaman doon ay sari-sari. G D C G Singkamas at talong, sigarilyas at mani C D G Sitaw, bataw, patani. G D C G Kundol, patola, upo’t kalabasa G D G At saka mayroon pang labanos, mustasa, G D C G Sibuyas, kamatis, bawang at luya C D G Sa paligid-ligid ay puno ng linga.

Wow! I can’t believe that I have lived the past 30 years knowing the melody of that song without understanding the words. Thank you. It’s a great way to be reacquainted with a language I haven’t heard in a long time.
[From Manuel] Thanks for dropping by, Jane! Just curious… what did it feel like when you heard Tagalog once again after all this time?

I didn’t know Bahay Kubo wasn’t taught in Philippine schools anymore. How about doing some more children’s songs? Paruparong Bukid, for instance. Or what about that one song that mixes Tagalog and English really badly: One day, isang araw; I saw, nakakita; etc.
[From Manuel] Hi, Sarapen… Thanks for the suggestions. Abangan! :-)

Here we go…

maraming salamat for the itunes podcast and for the blog. i have tried quite a few tutorial programs on line and books. the podcast has been wonderful because i play it in the car with my non-filipino boyfriend. it is also great to put a face to the voice!
i always look forward to your new podcasts.
[From Manuel] Thanks, LEC! I’m swamped right now, but I’ll come out with episodes in the next few weeks.

I think your podcasts are absolutely wonderful. I moved to Seattle when I was eight and quickly lost my ability to speak Cebuano. (Still fluently understand it, but can’t speak it.) On a whim, I decided to check out your site and I’m hooked to your lessons. They’re a lot of fun and the short format is perfect. Something I would definitely recommend to non-Filipino speakers. Keep up the excellent program!
[From Manuel] Thanks, Kris! I’ll upload a few more episodes in the next few weeks. :-)

Hi!
My kids need to learn the Bahay Kubo for an activity in school. I need to burn it in a CD so I can play over and over again in the car. Can you send me the audio format also. Thanks
[From Manuel] Hi Donna! The mp3 file containing just the part where I sing “Bahay Kubo” is around 1.15 MB. I’m having some difficulty emailing it to you. Perhaps you can just right-click and download the audio file from http://www.24ph.com/mp3/bahay-kubo-viloriadotcom.mp3 :-)
