iPad External Keyboard - Do You Really Need It?
How can you tell if you really need to get an external keyboard for your iPad Air or your iPad Mini?
Afterall, there are wonderful Bluetooth keyboards out there such as the Logitech Ultrathin Folio/Cover for the iPad.
When we say Cover, we mean only the front side of the iPad will be covered when the keyboard and iPad are folded shut.
The Folio, on the other hand, covers both the front and back of the tablet.
Getting back to our question, all you need to do is observe the way you behave: Do you do a lot of typing on your iPad?
Do you find yourself tapping way on the front glass because you compose long emails or write long reports?
If you do, then an external keyboard will help boost your productivity (even if it means carrying around an extra 0.7 pound of weight, in the case of the Logitech keyboard for the iPad 3 / 4 / Air).
If you're after being more mobile and carrying less weight, you can opt for the iPad Mini and the smaller keyboad (around 0.4 pound). You'll just need to make some adjustments, because the size of the Shift keys are smaller (squarish, rather than rectangular).
Plus, the Caps Lock and Tab keys are shared with the letters A and Q.
Personally, I would go for the larger keyboard + iPad Air combination. It's just that at present, I'm not typing that much yet on the iPad because there's an available laptop. Just the same, my back is starting to feel the strain of carrying a laptop via a backpack.
What about the possibility of getting scratches on the front and back of the iPad Air? It really depends on how much content you would like to produce using your iPad. If you're a writer, then go ahead and use the tools that will help you write, rather than those which will simply make your tablet look as if you haven't really used it.
