SkyBroadband Slow? Check Your Connection
If you're wondering why your SkyBroadband connection is slow, you can test it.
First of all, if you call 381-0000 (phone number of Sky Cable Philippines), they'll ask you to keep your modem on while they check it.
Then they'll schedule a SkyCable service crew to visit you.
Once the crew reaches your house, they'll run your web browser and visit 192.168.100.1 and then they will access a special password-protected page.
That page will show them the strength of your internet cable signal.
In my case, the signal was pretty good, so the technician went on to the ping test.
He clicked on the Windows Start button, typed cmd in the Run box, and got to the DOS prompt where he typed the following ping command:
C> ping 220.127.116.11 -t
We then saw that the connection time was quite fast:
Reply from 18.104.22.168: bytes=32 time=8ms TTL=60
He said that the value for time was less than 3 digits, which means it's quite fast.
(By the way, to stop the PING test please press Ctrl+C, then type EXIT, then press the ENTER key.)
"So the hardware and the cable connection are good?"
Yes, he replied.
"Since my SkyBroadband 5Mbps consumable package slows down at night, it's most likely a network congestion issue?"
Sa network na yan, he suggested.
Okay, thanks! So maybe that's why the Speedtest.Net shows a download speed of 0.8 Mbps at night (sometimes), instead of 4.99 Mbps.
Anyway, now we know why sometimes, SkyBroadband slows down.
