The Smartphone Boom

Exciting times ahead for smartphones and my mobile device-toting friends.

Are the rumors true? Will Apple come out with a $200 iPhone to hold off the rising market share of Android devices?

What this foreshadows for my pals in IT is: get ready to support Android, iOS, and Windows phones because more employees will be bringing these into the workplace.

As Samsung continues its market strategy of offering affordable smartphones to rapidly growing economies whose consumers are price-sensitive, and if it is true that Apple will come out with what might be a sub-P10,000 iPhone, expect a flood of smartphones... EVERYWHERE.

Even Yahoo! is focused on its mobile strategy (which excludes BlackBerry, though).

And most likely, these smartphone users will want to connect to the company's wireless network. So it pays to review our capacity plans.

Plus, let's not forget the issue of security and compliance. So yes, let's look closely not only at Mobile Device Management (MDM), but also at Mobile Application Management (MAM).

Exciting times ahead, I tell ya...
