Panasonic UJ 880A and Windows 7

Got a computer recently, with Windows 7 Home Basic installed. It wasn't that quite friendly with the external DVD reader/writer (Panasonic UJ 880A).

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

I tried installing MS Office 2010, and although the computer was able to detect the CD in the external drive, and was able to list the contents, the installation wouldn't go through.

I don't remember the error message, but it was something along the lines of: "... file cannot be found..."

Is there something about Windows 7 and the Panasonic UJ 880A?

One Solution: Attach the external drive to a computer running on Windows XP, and copy the files from the CD to the hard disk. Next, copy the files to a Seagate external hard drive.

Once you connect the external HD to the computer running Windows 7, you'll be able to run the installation files save in the external HD.

Come to think of it, you can probably save a few more steps by saving directly to the hard disk of the computer that's running Windows 7. Afterall, you're able to list the files.

In the meantime, I'll go search for and buy an external DVD reader/writer that works very well with Windows 7.

How about you? Are you able to easily install the old programs you've grown accustomed to... only this time, you're using Windows 7?

Please let me know. Thanks!
