Flip Video Mino HD vs Flip Video Ultra
Thinking of getting Pure Digital's Flip Video Mino HD or even the Flip Video Ultra portable mobile video cam?[an error occurred while processing this directive]
Well, the Flip Ultra is bulkier than the sleek Flip Mino, although the video quality is pretty much about the same. My dad will probably prefer the Flip Ultra because it uses two AA batteries, so even if you suddenly run out of power, you can easily slip in an extra pair of batteries.
The Flip Mino (and Mino HD), on the other hand, uses a non-user replaceable LiOn battery, which you can charge by plugging your Flip into the USB port of your computer. Less convenient than that Flip Ultra, I know, but I read that the battery life of the Flip Mino HD is around 3.5 hours.
Given the 2GB memory (which means you can store up to 1 hour of video), even if the battery lasts only 3 hours that's pretty much enough time to fill-up your Flip portable video cam and even review videos in between. If using a USB to charge your Flip does not appeal to you, you can get an external power adapter or charger.
From the video above, you will probably notice the difference in YouTube video quality especially when zooming in. If you like to have crisp and clear videos in YT, then record using a Flip Mino HD. If you're all right with simply and quickly posting videos of more or less acceptable quality, then get a Flip Ultra (or a Flip Mino if you want a slimmer video camera).
Here's an example of footage taken using the Flip Ultra video camcorder:
I'll go look for a Flip Video Ultra here in the Philippines. I might get lucky in Greenhills, or something.
In the meantime, please consider the fascinating possibilities of mobile video blogging, made conveniently possible with the help of Flip (which even has direct-upload-to-YouTube capabilities).
