Outlook and New Personal Folders

Mike was asking why the incoming mail was not being delivered to his new Personal Folder in Outlook.

Typically, when you create a new .PST file and then configure MS Outlook to deliver incoming messages to that particular Personal Folder, the new mail will still be delivered to the whichever .PST file was originally designated as the destination folder.

In other words, you will need to exit Outlook and then restart the program so that the recent changes you made will take effect.

"But I already did that," explained Mike.

We tried exiting and restarting Outlook, but the incoming mail was still being delivered to the old destination.

So I checked the Task Manager and saw that Outlook.exe was still running (even though we had exited Outlook).

"Looks like Outlook did not exit properly. I'll just terminate the program via the Task Manager."

After verifying that Outlook was indeed no longer in the computer's memory, we restarted it and discovered that new mail was indeed being delivered to the new Personal Folder.

So if you're having problems redirecting inbound mail in MS Outlook, please make sure you were able to properly exit from that email program.
