Ploning, The Movie

Ploning is movie slated for Summer 2008. It is set in Cuyo, Palawan.

Ms. Judy Ann Santos plays the role of Ploning. The movie tells of the "story of one woman's promise, her hope and love from the point of view of a young boy."

Here is a part of the Cuyonon folksong Ploning, as sung by a Joey, a Cuyunon who recently "aligned (herself) with (her) Cuyunon ethnicity and went back to (her) dear ol province which is Palawan, Philippines."

It's a beautifully soothing and tranquil song. I can almost imagine whoever composed this was staring at the sea while writing this.

I've added the chords for you (got the lyrics from Joey):

C C# C/G
Ploning, nga labing maleban (Ploning, who's very kind)
Dm G
ang guegma mo, Ploning (your love, Ploning)
C - C7
nga ing kandaduan (which have been locked in)
F G
lisensya ko Ploning (may I ask, Ploning)
Em Am
kung sarang tugutan (if you would allow)
Dm G
mapamasyar ako (I'd like to take a vacation)
C [then strum G7 if you want to repeat the song]
sa marayeng lugar (in a far place).

(The language sounds Bisaya, although the letter "e" in the word "marayeng" sounds like Ilocano.)

First-time Director Dante Nico Garcia has more Ploning lyrics in his Friendster site.

I'm looking forward to watching Ploning: The Movie (an indie film by Panoramanila Pictures Co.), not because I'm a fan of Juday (or Meryl Soriano or Iza Calzado), but because I'm intrigued by and drawn to the wonderful photography that reveals the beauty of Palawan:

Who knows? When I go visit Palawan, I might even get to meet the Timbancaya sisters of Cuyo Island:
