DVD: The Snow Walker

Just before dinner, Ali and I caught part of the movie The Snow Walker starring Barry Pepper and Annabella Piugattuk.

I was fascinated by the scenes in the arctic, and the developing story between the pilot Charlie Halliday (played by Pepper) and the Inuit girl Kanalaaq (played by Piugattuk).

You'll find the differences between the two cultures. It's almost East versus West, yet not quite really "East." Or perhaps this is a case of North versus West?

It makes me want to go fly off to Nunivut, northern Manitoba and B.C. where it was filmed and get a better feel of the place.

Too bad we didn't finish the movie (viewed on cable) because it was already time for dinner. I had a feeling that the ill Inuit girl was going to die in the movie, but was curious about how their culture treats the notion of impending death. Perhaps I'll go get a copy of the DVD.
