What's Important To Boys

Do you know what's important to your sons? The answer might surprise you.

It's music.

When our sons are subjected to the stresses of pre-teen or adolescent life, they turn to music. They go with friends and hang out in places like Eastwood City or Metrowalk and listen to live bands. They plug into their iPod or MP3 player world and tune out in a sea of music. They visit YouTube and search for music videos.

Do you know who your son's favorite band is? What his favorite songs are?

If your son is not into music, perhaps he's still quite young. Usually, twelve-year olds or those in Grade 6 or older start to show a keen interest in music. Whether it's heavy metal or R&B, your son will gravitate to it in times of both sorrow and joy.

A lot of us are surprised. We think our sons would move towards religion (hah!) or their friends (barkada or peer group). Then again, if you look at the list of popular WordPress tags, you will see that a lot of bloggers are writing about music.

If you want to improve your relationship with you sons, please consider getting into the world of music.
