The Viral Power Of YouTube Video

Do you know how quickly YouTube can boost the views of your online videos?

I made a little experiment and put up four videos online. While all four were featured on the same web site, the last video was also uploaded to YouTube.

The Results

The video hosted in YouTube had close to twice (1.8x) as many views as the three other online streaming videos combined.

Why did this happen?

1. More people visit YouTube than the site where I uploaded those videos.

2. With YouTube, others can easily display those videos on their own web sites (i.e., Friendster, MySpace)

Based on the YouTube stats, the 30-second clip I uploaded to YouTube was also featured by two other web sites (both on MySpace). And with just those two other websites (and with their own site audience), the views of this video (a television commercial) far outpaced those other commercials.

So, if you're into marketing and already offer your TVCs on your web site, consider uploading those to YouTube also and get more people to view your message.
