Download YouTube Videos

Looks like people want to learn how to download and save YouTube videos.

In How to: Download and Save YouTube Videos, Alice Hill outlines the four-step process. It's a bit complicated, and some people have been unable to complete the steps successfully.

Thankfully, there are other ways of achieving the same thing. (scroll down to the comments to see the alternative methods)

Once you're able to extract the FLV file, here's how to convert FLV to AVI.

Yet another way of downloading YouTube videos.

Why would people want to do this?

1. To save on download/bandwidth costs. Apparently, some broadband users have a monthly download allowance. Instead of using that up each time they view the video online, they'd rather watch the video straight from their hard disks.

2. To view the videos on their iPods. Some folks spend a healthy amount of time away from the computer.

What does this mean for online video enthusiasts?

Provide at least two versions of your streaming videos. One, for the social network (YouTube, Google video), and another for the downloaders or iTunes crowd. This will help spread your videos around faster.
