GMail for Asians

You can now get your own GMail account even if you don't have a GMail invitation.

All you need is a cellphone.

If you are from Asia and you visit http://gmail.google.com, you can sign-up for a GMail account using your mobile phone.

You'll be asked for your mobile number. I entered a Suncellular cell phone number and got a special invitation code in about 30 seconds. My load balance did not go down. I don't know if the incoming text is free or if it's taking some time to update my load balance.

Once you input the invitation code sent via sms text, you'll be able to apply for your own GMail account. Repeated requests for the code using the same cell phone will return the same invitation code, which means your phone is good for only one invite.
