Beware of Fake Anti-Spyware Programs

If your computer has been behaving oddly, and your browser's homepage keeps going to a certain site you don't like, then you've probably been infected with spyware. So you go around the web searching for anti-spyware tools, hoping to remove the problem from your infected computer.

But beware, some anti-spyware tools can do more harm than good.

In Spyware-Removal Program Tagged as a Trap, Paul Roberts writes about Spywareno, which "is installed on Internet users' computers without warning, can be difficult to remove and may be accompanied by malicious programs that hijack victims' Web browsers, according to interviews with spyware experts."

Before you try out this or that anti-spyware program, type the following in a Google searchbox:

reviews NameOfAntiSpywareTool

For example: reviews spywareno

Let's be careful out there, folks.
