Why I Don't Wear Ties
"Hi, Mr Neat! Why don't you wear a tie anymore?" asked my friend. It's not practical, I explained. Besides, it's simply too hot.
Even in my shirtjack, the summer heat in the Philippines makes my arms pasty. The airconditioner chugs along and helps, but once I step out on to the sizzling asphalt road, I get an instant sauna steam bath.
Yes, I do miss wearing ties and long-sleeved shirts.
But some people are willing to shed the corporate suit and tie image.
The Japanese will try going tieless in a bid to cut down on airconditioning costs. They'll set their aircons to 28 degrees Celsius. Good luck to them!
