Wanted: New Tagalog PoetsLIRA is looking for poets who wish to join the poetry workshop (Tagalog). The workshop will run from June to July 2005, Saturdays and Sundays, at the CAL New Building in UP Diliman. LIRA was established in 1985 by National Artist for Literature Virgilion S. Almario (better known as Rio Alma). LIRA is an organization of poets who craft poems in Filipino, and it takes pride in its annual poetry worskhop which helps mould the top poets and writers of our time. Some of the writers produced by the two-decade tradition of writing excellence of LIRA are the following members: Roberto T. Añonuevo and Romulo P. Baquiran, Jr., poets from Bicol and prolific authors; Rebecca T. Añonuevo, award-winning poet, critic and educator at the Miriam College; Vim Nadera, performance artist and current Director of the UP Institute of Creative Writing; Nicolas Pichay, attorney and awardee of the Centennial Literary Prize; Ariel Dim. Borlongan, Poet of the Year; Michael Coroza, educator at the Ateneo de Manila University and publisher; at si Edgar Samar, current president of LIRA who also teaches at the ADMU, and is also of writer of Children's literature.
