Bohol Welcome Song

"How's Bohol?" people keep asking me, now that I'm back from the long break. Aside from the usual beach, pool, tours to this and that historic spot, the one thing that stands out is the Bohol Welcome Song.

I'll never forget Mang Medik who greeted us with his cheerful smile and guitar by the banks of the Loboc river last Thursday. Our van sloshed through muddy streets and cut through a howling rain, yet by the river the weather quieted down. It seemed as if even the rainclouds wanted to listen to Mang Medik.

If there's one thing that makes me love the Philippines so much, it's the accent of my fellow Filipinos. Particularly those living in the Visayas. I dunno... perhaps my Dad being Bisaya has something to do with it.

Here are the lyrics of Mang Medik's Bohol Welcome Song:

Welcome to Bohol!
This is the land of chocolate hills
This is the land of the golden sun
This is the home of a noble man

We wish you a happy coming
To our beloved Philippines
This is Bohol, our pride Bohol
Welcome visitor!
This is Bohol, Loboc, Bohol
Welcome visitor!

Mang Medik (spoken): "Welcome to Bohol, and welcome also here in Loboc River... and floating restaurant! Thank you!"
