Belgium and 3D Chess

Congratulations to Eugene Torre and Gary Kasparov.

Torre tops Belgium chess tournament -- "ASIA'S first Grandmaster Eugene Torre posted back-to-back wins over Georgian GM Giorgi Bagaturov and Ukrainian GM Mihail Golubev in the last two rounds to emerge champion of the Filipino-dominated 15 de Open van Leuven chess championship Tuesday night in Leuven, Belgium."

Kasparov takes virtual draw in 3D chess -- "Kasparov and the programmers of X3D Fritz agreed to a draw on the 37th move after three hours and 20 minutes of play in a hard-fought game in which Kasparov won a powerful rook in exchange for a bishop and a pawn in the middlegame, but could not convert that slight material advantage into a victory."

X3D Man-Machine World Championship Game One -- Replay the game online, and read the game analysis and commentary.

In my bid to improve my chessgames, I'm now reading Logical Chess: Move By Move: Every Move Explained New Algebraic Edition (by Irving Chernev).

After reading the first sample game, I found myself exclaiming: "Ah! So that's why I shouldn't make that move..." Instead of just memorizing lines of play, I now have a better understanding of defending and attacking the king-side.
