Education: Changing Lives
At times (or perhaps, most of the time), as a parent, I realize that it can be a pain to get my kids to study as much as I would want them to. More often, also, I feel that children who have it relatively easy -- like those who need not worry about where their next meal will come from or who need not wonder whether they can still continue with school next year, have a tendency to appreciate their material blessings less.

Dumaguete Vacation
Last May 2010, prior to the Philippine presidential elections, we were off to Dumaguete for our annual viloria family vacation. We took a one hour, fifteen minute flight via Cebu Pacific to Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental, located in the Visayas.

Joey Velasco
Pretty is not a word one would use to describe his paintings. Then again, true Christian love is rarely pretty and warm all the time. Joey Velasco, a true Filipino artist and painter, passed away yesterday and viloria.com joins our nation in praying for his soul and for his family.
And so, after much ado over the automated elections, Benigno Aquino III or Nonoy Aquino, is now President of the Philippines. We were at mass a few Sundays back and we saw Fr. Jim Ferry.

Donors for Blood Type O negative needed for Mr. Onofre Pagsanghan
Mr. Onofre Pagsanghan, legendary teacher at the Ateneo de Manila High School and fondly known as Mr. Pagsi, still needs blood donors for a blood transfusion. (This information was as of June 21, 2010, Monday morning).

The Long Road to Change
It is six days after the Philippine presidential elections as I write this and from the looks of the results and how the politicians have conducted themselves during the campaign and after the elections, I have personally concluded that the road to change is going to be a long one. Like most of the Filipinos who cast their votes (a reported 75% out of 50 million registered voters) last May 10, 2010 though, I was happy with little victories.

Philippine Presidential Elections May 10, 2010
It is election day in my one and only, beloved country, the Philippines, and I have already cast my vote for whom I think will make the best leaders in the next six years. My husband and I were at our precinct at 9:15 am and from the time we lined up to the time we left the polling place, it took one hour and ten minutes.

Of Mothers and our Motherland
Happy Mother's Day to all the loving and hardworking mothers out there! Today, May 9, 2010, the world celebrates Mother's Day and despite the commercialization of the event which can sometimes be downright sickening, I do agree that we need to pay tribute to the women who have given so much of themselves to make us who we are today.

Philippine Politics Going to the Dogs?
The Philippine presidential elections are just nine days away. We hope we will all make the best choice but sometimes, we also need to relax and not take things so seriously.

The Vote to Right
It is only about nine days to the Philippine presidential elections and I am excited. It is interesting to see how the elections will turn out although from the way that the campaign has been conducted so far, things do not look very promising.
It didn't feel like eight years. On March 25, 2010, the sesquicentennial batch of the Ateneo Grade School had their commencement exercises.

Maligayang Pasko ng Pagkabuhay! (Have a Happy Easter!)
We celebrate with great joy today as Jesus rises and lives! I pray that you had a meaningful Holy Week, with some time for reflection, introspection -- and just time to be quiet and be with the Lord.

Ateneo Grade School Batch 2010 Memento
After the Thanksgiving Mass at the Blue Eagle Gym last March 19, school officials, parent representatives, Grade 7 students, and their parents, proceeded to the Chapel of the Holy Guardian Angels for the blessing of Batch 2010's memento. According to Fr. Kit Bautista, SJ, Headmaster of the Ateneo Grade School, it has been a tradition of each graduating batch to leave something behind to remember their grade school days by.

Ateneo Grade School Thanksgiving Mass 2010
On March 19, 2010, Feast of St. Joseph, the entire Middle School of the Ateneo Grade School, the graduating batch of 2010, school officials and personnel, as well as parents, came together for a thanksgiving mass at 7:30am at the Blue Eagle Gym. It was an apt way to express the Ateneo Grade school community's gratitude for all the blessings received, as well as for the challenges hurdled during the entire school year 2009-2010.

Wedding and Events Photographer: Aaron Ebio
As you may have read by now, my parents recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. For the event, I searched for a photographer since I wanted everyone in the family to enjoy the proceedings and program without having to worry about taking photos.
